Success Story – Finding Work After Cancer Treatment

Keep reading to hear all about Fiona’s journey of finding work after cancer treatment. Fiona is one of many candidates who have found fulfilling work through Astriid. Have you signed up as a candidate yet?

“The key benefits of being back in the workplace is that it gives me a sense of purpose, and also I’m working for organisations that make a difference in the world.”

Fiona, a former Acupuncturist and complementary therapist, was first diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Her cancer treatment adversely affected her memory and eyesight which meant she was no longer able to work in her former role. Instead, she turned her attention to the charity sector. She began to build up experience working in fundraising and communications. She started on a voluntary basis, and then began exploring paid opportunities. Incredibly, her input began increasing the income of the small charities she worked with by around 35%!

In 2017, Fiona was diagnosed with cancer again. After a period of recovery, she felt ready to return to work but found she was struggling with fatigue. This made finding suitable roles much more challenging. Fiona reached out to Astriid, and our team matched her with Creative Alliance – a social enterprise which helps young people develop skills and find apprenticeships in the creative industry. Fiona is now hoping to pursue more consultancy work, because she wants to continue supporting charities and organisations who are making a difference in the world.
